Erika Peters coaches women on weight loss medications struggling with belly fat, low energy, and muscle loss to boost their metabolism, fit into their clothes, and feel more alive. With nearly 30 years as a personal trainer and weight loss coach she observed the frustrating impact of weight loss plateaus due to (severe) muscle loss experienced as a result of extreme dieting. This led her to focus on an approach that increases metabolism by preserving muscle mass, while her clients lost body fat. Erika is the proud mother of two daughters and lives in Berkeley California.

My Story

For most of my life I managed my weight by skipping meals, focusing on eating low fat, low calorie foods and spending hours doing cardio. This led to exhaustion, unpredictable mood and weight fluctuations, intense cravings for refined carbohydrates and an increasing tendency towards extreme swings between undereating and binging.

Not long after starting my job as a health coach at a weight loss clinic, I started following a low carb, whole foods lifestyle where I ate 3 meals and two snacks every day. This is what I was teaching and so I needed to understand how it worked. I also cut my cardio down 50% and replaced it with lower impact resistance training.

For the first time in my life, I was eating at regular intervals, and making sure I had ENOUGH food. I found that as I fed my body adequate nutrients throughout the day, my cravings and binging decreased as my energy increased. Additionally, I found that focusing on lower impact exercises versus just cardio, helped me maintain my muscle while keeping my desire for refined carbohydrates manageable.

Low and behold, within a month of being on this plan, my appetite was regulated, cravings disappeared and the fat was falling off. Additionally, I had more energy and weight stability than I had in my 20’s.

Before I started working with Erika I felt trapped in a cycle of carb addiction and lethargy, barely able to get through the workday, let alone through a workout! I would try to get things under control by going on crash diets or doing spurts of intense cardio, which barely moved the numbers on the scale.
